Modelling

The partners have previously undertaken pioneering work in the use of statistical and information theoretic models for describing decentralised sensing networks. Research in modelling will couple these ideas with agent-based and network techniques and focus on:

  1. Statistical models of information gain and information flow between autonomous systems, especially in the description of composite picture formation;
  2. the use of expected utility models to describe local agent behaviour and interaction between the goals of many agents; and
  3. the development of underlying network models describing communication and cooperation between heterogeneous autonomous systems.

The modelling research is both novel and innovative; no such programme of research in autonomous systems has yet been defined or attempted.
Research in modelling will be led by Salah Sukkarieh.
